...is the same.
Someone at work yesterday was being very offensive. Let's call him Sam. Sam was using rude language and speaking extremely judgmentally about someone they had just met whom I also work with. I began feeling very angry towards Sam. I let certain thoughts fester about how Sam was such a typical CU party-boy with no respect for anyone. So I withheld my respect from him. I went and took a break, leaving the area with my rude co-worker. After a few minutes alone, I had a chance to reflect on my own emotions. I realized that I was guilty of engaging the exact same de-humanizing judgements about Sam that he was making. I reminded myself of a very important Truth. Everyone is the same at the core, therefore everyone deserves to be treated with respect, even if they are not treating other people that way. You cannot fight fire with fire. But douse your enemies in a heavy dose of kindness and they are bound to cool down. Because they are human. Unless of course your enemies are aliens or robots. That's a story for another day.
Peace be with you.
