...And each one of us is a player. At first take, I thought this statement was blasphemy...just a silly way to think. After deep self-exploration and taking classes in the field of Communication, I've come to discover that this statement couldn't be more true. It is a fantastic metaphor which gives a taste of a deeper truth to our existence.
We are all real and living this life...however, so much of everything that we know and understand isn't the way it appears to be. I find that by thinking of myself as a player in a game, I reach a more objective/zoomed-out view of my experiences, which in turn provides a greater feeling of control and a lessened feeling anxiety in my day-to-day life. I succeed in overcoming my fears when I believe that the scary situation I am in is just an experiment. When I believe that I am in every situation, good and bad, for a reason, as if God is testing my strength, this allows be to find a nugget or lesson which can help me grow even stronger. Even if I feel miserable, thinking about certain situations as a sort of "test" frees me - not from the actual experience - but the way I interpret it.
Everything is a matter of perspective. Given that, why not follow your heart and do what feels "right", as opposed to doing what other people or society as a whole would say is "right"?
